Stratford
Thousands of new homes, highly rated schools and world-class sporting facilities at the Olympic Park.
The new E20 postcode was created in honour of the 2012 London Olympic Games, and 520-acre Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is at its heart, containing the formidable array of Olympic legacy sporting venues including the former Games stadium, now home to West Ham United; the Zaha Hadid-designed Aquatics Centre and the Lee Valley VeloPark, by Hopkins Architects.
East Village, north of Stratford International station, was the 2012 Athletes’ Village, where specially built blocks of over 2,800 flats were home to 17,000 athletes during the Games.
The property scene
Stratford’s regeneration has seen multiple luxurious apartment developments built and investment in these new apartments have been rife which has seen property values increase.
In the nearby Maryland area of Stratford in E15 there are streets of three-bedroom Victorian terrace houses selling ideal for families.
Lifestyle
There are independent shops, cafés, restaurants and bars in East Village including a butcher, greengrocer, artisan baker, wine bar, coffee shops, two Italian restaurants and a branch of Sainsbury’s Local.
Many of these new shops are in Victory Parade, a pedestrian avenue overlooking Victory Park at the centre of East Village. There is a food market every Sunday.
On the terrace overlooking the River Lee Navigation and Hackney Wick are cafés and restaurants including a branch of The Breakfast Club, while Four Quarters caters for lovers of beer and arcade games. On Wednesday lunchtime there are street stalls.
For those in search of a more traditional shopping experience, Westfield Stratford City, one of the country’s largest shopping centres, is on the doorstep.
